Authorization re: Signature Authority for District Attorney Transition

Purpose and Request:
recommended action
To seek authority for the Directors of the Human Resources and Finance Departments to sign contracts and other documents necessary for the District Attorney’s Office to be ready to operate after the split of the 18th Judicial District into two separate judicial districts at the beginning of 2025.
.end
Background and Discussion: Pursuant to legislation adopted in 2020, the current 18th Judicial District is to split into two separate judicial districts at the beginning of 2025. The 18th Judicial District will become a single-county judicial district comprised of Arapahoe County. The new 23rd Judicial District will be comprised of Elbert, Lincoln and Douglas Counties.
Once the split occurs the employees of the DA’s Office for the 18th Judicial District will start receiving their payroll and benefits from Arapahoe County rather than from the current multi-county district. In addition, Arapahoe County departments will begin providing the internal services needed for the DA’s Office to operate. The purpose of this resolution is to authorize the Human Resources and Finance Directors to be able to sign such documents as may be necessary to prepare for and effectuate the transition of the DA’s Office by the beginning of 2025.
Fiscal Impact: No significant financial impact is anticipated, however, any potential financial impact would be absorbed within the transition funding/budget already allocated and appropriated by the Board of County Commissioners.
Alignment with Strategic Plan:
☒Be fiscally sustainable
☒Provide essential and mandated service
☒Be community focused
Resolution: See attached.
