end
Background and Discussion: Pursuant to legislation adopted in 2020, the current 18th Judicial District is to split into two separate judicial districts in 2025. The 18th Judicial District will become a single-county judicial district comprised of Arapahoe County. The new 23rd Judicial District will be comprised of Elbert, Lincoln and Douglas Counties.
Once the split occurs the employees of the District Attorney’s Office that will be serving the single-county 18th Judicial District will receive their payroll and benefits from Arapahoe County rather than from the current multi-county district. According to Financial Policy 3.2 - Staffing Authorization, Board of County Commissioner approval is required for any increase, decrease, or transfer of authorized positions. The purpose of this resolution is authorize staff to make the changes necessary to transition these District Attorney positions to the County’s system in preparation for the judicial district split occurring in 2025.
