Background and Discussion:  The Aurora Police Department wishes to apply for a Justice Assistance Grant on behalf of ASCO to offer overtime for deputies for High Visibility Patrols for public events and large gatherings in the ACSO service areas.  This is a recurring grant.

The APD will manage the grant and funding, and the City’s status shall be that of a fiscal agent.  The total amount of the award for the ACSO is $16,892.00 for overtime for ASCO deputies to provide proactive high visibility patrols to prevent and respond to active threats targeting public events, entertainment districts and other “soft target” public venues.

Alternatives: The alternative is to not accept the grant and try to fund the overtime through the General Fund.

Fiscal Impact: There are no additional fiscal impacts as there is not a matching fund requirement for this grant.

Alignment with Strategic Plan:

                     ☒Be fiscally sustainable

                     ☒Provide essential and mandated service

                     ☒Be community focused

Concurrence: The Sheriff’s Office Administration and Public Safety Bureau are in concurrence with this decision.
