Background and Discussion: At the February 8, 2024 Board of Health Retreat, the Board identified the need for informal sessions to foster stronger working relationships among members and to create more space for dialogue on key public health topics. Based on this recommendation, a pilot program for informal study sessions was conducted from May to September 2024. During this time, the Board met for one-hour before each business meeting to exchange ideas, discuss emerging public health issues, and engage in collaborative problem-solving in a less structured environment. The pilot’s intent was to strengthen the Board’s cohesiveness, enhance understanding of complex issues, and increase member engagement. The informal study sessions were properly noticed open meetings that were open for attendance to the public and county staff. Due to their informal nature, the meetings did not include adoption of any proposed policy, position, resolution, rule, regulation or formal action, and the meetings were not recorded or live streamed. The presentation today will review the outcomes of these sessions, including participation levels, key discussion themes, and overall effectiveness, to inform next steps.
