Background and Discussion: In 2020 Road and Bridge was approved to purchase a new self-powered Roadhog mill attachment replacing unit 4022 (FA#302011) with budget package #5387. However, the acquisition was delayed because of COVID and vendor difficulties. Currently, and for the same price as one self-powered unit, the vendor is offering an opportunity for a limited time to provide us with two (2) hydraulic Roadhog mill attachments because the self-powered one is difficult to obtain due to manufacturing issues.
Fiscal Impact: There will be a slight increase to the price (due to inflation) over the past 5 years. The total for the two (2) hydraulic mill attachments is $58,775 and our budget package was approved for $53,000. Road and Bridge will be supplementing the variance of $5,775 from our operating budget.
Alternatives: Unfortunately, there are no more self-powered mill attachments being manufactured at this point. Our only options are hydraulic mill attachments. While other dealers manufacture these types of units such as Bobcat and CAT, Road and Bridge staff have concerns about the work required by these units. More specifically, both Bobcat and CAT attachments are used for 2" cuts using the machine to cut around and up to 1,000'feet per day. We require a mill attachment that can cut 5,280' feet per day.
