Purpose and Request:

recommended action

The Sheriff’s Office will be partnering with a YouTube influencer to record and produce a video on the bomb squad academy. The Board of County Commissioners is requested to authorize the Sheriff to sign a Location Release Form for all the county-owned buildings the production crew will be filming and to sign an Appearance Release Form related to the appearances in the video, which will include Sheriff’s Office employees.

Background and Discussion: The Bomb Squad will be filming a video with Michelle Khare, a YouTuber with 4.3 million subscribers (link attached). The video is for one of her upcoming episodes titled “I Tried Bomb Squad Academy.” On her channel, she hosts a series called Challenge Accepted, where she dives into unique professions such as law enforcement, to see how skilled a novice can become in a limited timeframe under coaching and hard work. For this episode, she would be working in collaboration with the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office to film an educational video about what it’s like to train to be a member of the Bomb Squad and the techniques we use to keep people safe.
