Alignment with Strategic Plan: Good Governance - Plan for future service, infrastructure, and fiscal needs.

Background and Discussion: The City of Centennial has annexed the right-of-way along Broncos Parkway from Parker Road to Potomac St.  As a result of this annexation, the roadway infrastructure within the right-of-way has become the responsibility of the City of Centennial to own, operate, and maintain.  To ensure access to each traffic signal, the City of Centennial has requested that existing easements be transferred to the City.

Arapahoe County is in possession of an easement on the northeast corner of Broncos Parkway and Cherokee Trail.  The easement is necessary for the maintenance of the traffic signal at this intersection.  Although the County maintains Cherokee Trail north of Broncos Parkway, the conveyance of this easement to Centennial does not hinder the County from performing work.  PWD has worked with the County Attorney’s Office and the City of Centennial and has determined that a quitclaim deed of this easement is the best means to convey the easement to Centennial.

Alternatives: There are no appropriate alternatives to what is being recommended.

Fiscal Impact: There is no fiscal impact for the conveyance of this easement to the City of Centennial.  However, the annexation of the roadway by Centennial has resulted in less capital assets to maintain and the conveyance of this easement will result in additional savings.

Alignment with Strategic Implementation Strategies: N/A.

Concurrence: The County Attorney’s Office and the City of Centennial concur with this action.
