Background and Discussion: Colorado statue requires that every five years public health agencies conduct an assessment and planning process that results in the creation of a comprehensive community health assessment and a new community health improvement plan (CHIP). The selection of high priority focus areas to drive the CHIP is a requirement of the Colorado Public Health Act. Through completion of the recent 2024 Arapahoe County Community Health Assessment, six topics emerged as among the most critical to consider for inclusion in the upcoming CHIP. These include safety, environment, housing, food security, economic security, and access to physical and behavioral health care. To better understand the landscape of these potential priority areas, a capacity assessment is being conducted among ACPH staff and organizational partners. The information provided, along with guidance from the Arapahoe County Board of Health and Arapahoe County Commissioners, will be used to inform the final selection of focus areas that will drive high priority planning, implementation and monitoring efforts by ACPH and its partners over the next 5 years.

Fiscal Impact: No immediate, direct fiscal impact. Findings from the prioritization will inform the selection of 5-year focus areas during Quarter 3 of 2024. Staff and Board of Health members can anticipate the need to identify resources to plan, coordinate and monitor strategies aimed at impacting the resulting focus areas.
