Purpose and Request:

The approval and signature of the Board of County Commissioners is sought for the donation of real property, Quitclaim Deed owned by the County.  The property is located at the northwest (RW-05) and southwest (RW-04) corners of East Cornell Avenue and South Monaco Parkway.

Alignment with Strategic Plan: Good Governance - Plan for future service, infrastructure, and fiscal needs.                      

 

Background and Discussion: County staff was approached by the City and County of Denver (CCD) about acquiring right-of-way at the northwest and southwest corners of East Cornell Avenue and South Monaco Parkway for an upcoming project they are constructing. PWD has no current or future use for these small segments of right-of-way beyond their current use as a sidewalk.  CCD is installing a new traffic signal and ADA compliant ramps at this intersection and CCD wants to be responsible for the maintenance of these improvements.

 

Alternatives: The alternative is to “do-nothing,” which leaves the County with right-of-way that will result in the ongoing maintenance of the new infrastructure and the financial burden associated with this work instead of having it maintained by the City and County of Denver.  The County has no current planned use beyond what it is currently being used for and will be used for in the future.

 

Fiscal Impact: There is a positive impact to the sale of this property by avoiding future maintenance costs.

 

Alignment with Strategic Implementation Strategies: N/A

 

Staff Recommendation: Staff recommends quitclaim deeding these areas to CCD in order for their project to proceed.

 

Concurrence: City and County of Denver has requested these parcels to complete their work and signed the County’s Standard Quitclaim document.
