Purpose and Request:

recommended action

The purpose of this request is to obtain approval from the Board of County Commissioners to apply for the 2024-2025 Request for Proposal Grant Request from the Next50 Foundation.

Background and Discussion: Historically, Arapahoe County Senior Resources has received supplemental funding for Homemaker and Chore Services through the Arapahoe County General Fund. For 2024 the full Senior Resources Admin allocation was $343,459. This includes a mandatory 25 percent match for the Chore Services Grant from Denver Regional Council of Government (DRCOG). Due to funding shortfalls anticipated in 2025 we are requesting to apply for $150,000 to the Next50 Foundation for their Changing Aging Grant. These funds will help supplement an anticipated cut of nearly 50 percent of our general funds allocation should this need to happen, or help increase staffing through temporary grant funds should the County find additional revenue sources.

The full grant request will be for $40,000 for chore services and $110,000 for homemaker programming. These include staffing costs, indirect personnel, program supplies and travel reimbursement.

Fiscal Impact: This request has no direct fiscal impact on the county. It is to continue current programming.

Alternatives: The Board of County Commissioners may choose not to allow the Senior Resources Division to apply for new funding from the Next50 Foundation, potentially eliminating vital services designed to allow Seniors and individuals with disabilities to age independently in their homes and may make recommendations for other funding sources.

Alignment with Strategic Plan:

                     Be fiscally sustainable

                     Provide essential and mandated service

                     Be community focused

Staff Recommendation: The staff agrees with this recommendation for funding.
