Alignment with Strategic Plan: Safe and Healthy Communities - Expand mental and behavioral health service partnerships, crisis response, and co-responder programs.

Background and Discussion: In the 2007 legislative session the Colorado General Assembly passed Senate Bill 07-118, codified at Section 13-1-201 et seq., C.R.S. which provides supplemental funding for courthouse security.  That bill created the Court Security Cash Fund Grant and mandated that money from the Fund be made available to counties through grants for court security staffing, equipment, and training. Such grants are issued through the State Court Administrator's Office upon recommendation by the Court Security Cash Fund Commission. Funding under the program is available to Colorado Counties only.

The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) is seeking authorization from the Board of County Commissioners to allow the Sheriff’s Office to apply for and accept the subsequent award for the 2026/27 Court Security Cash Fund Grant.  ACSO will use funds from this grant to purchase and relocate security cameras, ballistic shields, and computer radio programming to add an additional dispatch channel for court operations.

The total amount ACSO is requesting is $108,351.90. A list of the requested equipment is attached.  ACSO is also seeking authorization for 8 fixed asset numbers for items costing over $5,000.

Alternatives: The alternative is to not apply for or accept the grant and therefore not purchase the equipment at this time.  The requested items could be submitted as budget packages for 2027.

Fiscal Impact: There are no additional fiscal impacts as there is not a matching fund requirement for this grant. session.
