Background and Discussion: Colorado statute requires that every five years public health agencies conduct an assessment and planning process that results in the creation of a comprehensive community health assessment and a new community health improvement plan (CHIP). The selection of high priority focus areas to drive the CHIP is a requirement of the Colorado Public Health Act. Through completion of the recent 2024 Arapahoe County Community Health Assessment, six topics emerged as among the most critical to consider for inclusion in the upcoming CHIP. These include safety, environment, housing, food security, economic security, and access to physical and behavioral health care. To better understand the landscape of these potential priority areas, a capacity assessment was conducted among ACPH staff and organizational partners. The information provided, along with insights from the Arapahoe County Board of Health <https://docs.google.com/document/d/1bmxIeEVrVsTA9uTKqsn2ZyN39HWqjoNs_Y9dkmQxVC8/edit?usp=sharing>, Arapahoe County Commissioners, and other local leaders was used to inform a priority input meeting among community-based organizational partners on June 25. At the June 26 Board of Health meeting, takeaways from that partner meeting will be shared and Board members will provide guidance on a final list of top priority issues that will drive planning, implementation, and evaluation of the Arapahoe County Community Health Improvement Plan by ACPH and its partners over the next 5 years.

Fiscal Impact: No immediate, direct fiscal impact. Prioritization decisions will inform the drafting of issue-specific action plans during Quarter 3 of 2024. Staff and Board of Health members can anticipate the need to identify resources to plan, coordinate and monitor strategies aimed at impacting the resulting focus areas.
