The purpose of this item is adoption of a resolution officially appointing Gini Pingenot as the Director of Open Spaces and relieving Interim Director of Open Spaces, Katherine Smith, from her duties related to the Open Spaces Department.

Background and Discussion: Former Director of Open Spaces, Shannon Carter, retired on December 1, 2023. The Board of County Commissioners appointed Director of Community Resources, Katherine Smith to also perform the duties and responsibilities of the Interim Director of Open Spaces effective December 1, 2023. The Board performed a national search to fill the Director of Open Spaces position. As a result of the search, the Board appointed Gini Pingenot as the Director of Open Spaces, effective as of February 26, 2024. This appointment includes the grant of all requisite duties and responsibilities as the Director of Open Spaces.
In order to facilitate the successful on-boarding of Ms. Pingenot, staff recommends that Ms. Smith maintain her signature authority on behalf of the Open Spaces Department, along with Ms. Pingenot, creating a dual signature authority, until March 15, 2024. This will allow projects, agreements, and issues to move forward while Ms. Pingenot gets up to speed on all Open Spaces Department matters.
As of March 15, 2024, Ms. Smith’s signature authority on behalf of the Open Spaces Department shall cease and she shall no longer have any duties and responsibilities with respect to the Open Spaces Department.

Fiscal Impact: The fiscal impact will be the salary and benefits for the Director of Open Spaces position.
