Alignment with Strategic Plan: Good Governance - Understand and respond to community needs, interests, and values.

Background and Discussion: The Fair Planning Committee’s Bylaws were last updated in 2018. Major updates in this year’s effort includes:

1.)                     the addition of a purpose statement for the Committee;

2.)                     clarification that committee members can be Arapahoe County residents or an individual or spouse paying property taxes within Arapahoe County;

3.)                     clarification that the Director of the Arapahoe County Colorado State Extension Office is a non-voting member and serves in the Treasurer role;

4.)                     increase in term duration from one year to three years (with members being allowed to serve up to 3 terms, at the discretion of the Board of County Commissioners); and

5.)                     specification of member duties

Bylaw edits were collaboratively developed by Open Spaces staff, the Fair Planning Committee, the Commissioner’s Board and Commission liaison and the County Attorney’s office.

Alternatives: The Board of County Commissioners could choose not to adopt the proposed updates or adopt some of them but not all of them.

Fiscal Impact: No fiscal impact.

Alignment with Strategic Implementation Strategies: N/A

Staff Recommendation: Staff recommends approving the proposed bylaw changes.

Concurrence: The Fair Planning Committee concurs with the proposed changes.
