Purpose and Request:
The purpose of this request is for the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) to consider approving the electronic submission of a grant application to the State of Colorado Office of Adult and Juvenile Justice Assistant to provide funding for crime victims and witness protection.

Alignment with Strategic Plan: Safe and Healthy Communities - Enhance victim services and support for survivors that have been harmed by crime.

Background and Discussion: The 18th Judicial District Attorney's Office would like to submit a grant application to the Office of Adult and Juvenile Justice Assistant to provide funding for crime victims and witness protection.

The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program supports funding for crime victims and witness protection.

The 18th Judicial District Attorney's Office has identified a critical operational need to strengthen its Witness Protection Program as the FLEX Unit continues to manage high-risk victims and witnesses facing intimidation, retaliation, domestic violence, gang involvement, human trafficking, and violent crime-related threats. The desired outcome is to improve victim and witness safety, protect confidential relocation efforts, enhance communication and investigative response, support VRA compliance, reduce liability, and ensure victims and witnesses can safely remain engaged in the prosecution process.
