Purpose and Request:

recommended action

The purpose of this session is to share information regarding the Aurora Motor Vehicle branch office operation, communicate known challenges/concerns and identify potential solutions and options moving forward.

Background and Discussion: The Aurora Motor Vehicle branch office is the busiest motor vehicle office in all of Colorado. Unfortunately, the location is hindered by a laundry list of issues ranging from accessibility to safety to costs to building maintenance. The branch office is one of a few remaining County leased spaces and the contract expires in 2027. The County executive team and the Elected officials have been focusing on reducing unwanted leases and building a more service-centric forward-facing presence.

Fiscal Impact: Currently unknown. Any fiscal impact would include lease contract, maintenance/repair costs, staffing time, potential re-location costs, etc.

Alternatives: None, this is an informational session to provide context for future decisions.

Alignment with Strategic Plan:

                     ☒Be fiscally sustainable

                     ☒Provide essential and mandated service

                     ☒Be community focused

Staff Recommendation: Staff ultimately recommend expiring this lease in 2027 and relocating the Aurora Motor Vehicle operations to another County owned facility, ideally in Aurora near public transportation.
