recommended action
Request the Board of County Commissioners approve and authorize the Chair to sign the amendment of the Intergovernmental Agreement for Law Enforcement Services with the Town of Bennett, CO. This matter had previously been discussed and financial aspects approved at First Quarter Budget Review on May 13, 2025.

Background and Discussion: Historically, the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office has provided law enforcement services within the boundaries of the portion of the Town of Bennett located in Arapahoe County. Starting on May 1, 2024, the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office started to provide law enforcement services for the entire Town. Since the implementation of this agreement, both the Sheriff's Office and the Town have been very satisfied with the relationship and the outcomes of our service delivery. The Town of Bennett wants to add a 0.5 deputy FTE for traffic work, as part of their new overall traffic safety plan for the town. Since we cannot hire half a person, the easiest and quickest way to achieve this is to "buy in" to an existing county traffic position, just as we did with the 0.5 investigator. The contract amendment is in process to codify the addition of 0.5 FTE and add 50% of the on-going cost of position to the funds owed by the Town. Billing will be prorated based on the position being filled which is estimated to be around July 1, 2025.

Alternatives: If the Board declines this agreement, the position would not be authorized or filled.

Fiscal Impact: This amendment to the Agreement for Service will generate up to but not to exceed $375,000 (Base Sum) in revenue to the Arapahoe Law Enforcement Authority. The Base Sum represents the estimated annual actual ...
