Purpose and Request:
recommended action
The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office has been asked to write a letter of support for the University of Colorado Anschutz regarding their efforts to collect information from individuals experiencing incarceration that have a history of high-risk medical and/or mental health diagnoses. This effort will include on-site visits from staffers at the University of Colorado and some non-identifiable information sharing.

Background and Discussion: The University of Colorado Anschutz is the recipient of a grant that will allow them to better understand the topics of suicidal ideations while experiencing incarceration and substance use disorder (SUD) treatment while experiencing incarceration and post-release. The University of Colorado Anschutz is an important partner of the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office, and we are hoping that this effort will lead to a better understanding of meeting the needs of the individuals post-release in hopes of decreasing recidivism by providing enhanced care in the community. The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office operational impact will be minimal, but we will work with our colleagues at the University of Colorado in order to arrange best times to perform interviews with those individuals that meet the criteria to be interviewed.
Fiscal Impact: There is not any monetary impact on the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office.
Alternatives: The only alternative is that the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office does not sign a Letter of Support.
Alignment with Strategic Plan:
☒Be fiscally sustainable
☒Provide essential and mandated service
☒Be community focused
