Purpose and Request:

The Board of County Commissioners is requested to adopt a proclamation establishing November 29, 2023, as Sand Creek Massacre Commemoration Day.

Background and Discussion: In late 2022, the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) approved a process to issue proclamations that meet the following criteria:

 

                     Highlight items of importance related to Arapahoe County services, employee recognition or the County’s strategic plan;

                     Promote an issue that impacts a broad range of Arapahoe County residents or employees;

                     Made by an Arapahoe County resident, employee or elected official.

 

The attached proclamation met the above requirements and were determined eligible for approval by the Board of County Commissioners.

Fiscal Impact: None.

                     Be fiscally sustainable

                     Provide essential and mandated service

                     Be community focused

 

Concurrence: This proclamation is consistent with the tenets of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between Arapahoe County and the Northern Arapaho Tribe.
