Background and Discussion: The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office has provided law enforcement services within the boundaries of the Town of Deer Trail, Colorado since 1977. Over the past quarter century, the Sheriff’s Office Patrol has served the citizens of Deer Trail. The deputies that are assigned to this district have established a relationship with the citizens they serve and protect. The type of law enforcement services provided by the Sheriff Office within the boundaries of Deer Trail are similar to the law enforcement services provided in unincorporated areas of the County of Arapahoe and include law enforcement communication center services, but do not include enforcement of municipal ordinances. The fees paid by the Town of Deer Trail for law enforcement services are calculated using the current Arapahoe Law Enforcement Authority mill levy of 0.004982 on Deer Trail’s assessed property value.
Alternatives: If the Board declines this agreement, the Town Council of Deer Trail would have to initiate a search for another law enforcement agency to provide these services within their boundaries.
Fiscal Impact: This Agreement for Service will generate $62,856.81 in revenue to the Arapahoe Law Enforcement Authority.
Alignment with Strategic Plan:
☒Be fiscally sustainable
☒Provide essential and mandated service
☒Be community focused
Concurrence: The Town of Deer Trail is in concurrence with this decision.
