Provide an update on the Countywide Homelessness Coordinating Committee for board input and direction.

Background and Discussion: On February 23rd, 2021, staff proposed an approach to the Board related to the creation of a Countywide Homelessness Coordinating Committee.  During the February 23rd proposal, staff received approval and support from the Board to move forward with continued development of the Countywide Homelessness Coordinating Committee, to include meeting with City Managers and other local homelessness working groups, to determine support and receive feedback.  Staff is reporting back to the board in order to provide an update on progress and receive input related to recommended next steps.

Fiscal Impact: At this time, staff believes this would be a consolidation and improved coordination of existing resources allocated to the issue.

Alternatives: The Board could choose to continue with existing adhoc efforts.

Alignment with Strategic Plan:

                     ☐Be fiscally sustainable

                     ☒Provide essential and mandated service

                     ☒Be community focused

Staff Recommendation: Present the idea of the Homeless Coordinating Committee at the next Mayors/Managers/Commissioners meeting in May; Support the proposed changes to the committee’s initial focus; Sign MDHI “Pledge” to join in ending homelessness
