Purpose and Request:
recommended action
The Clerk and Recorder’s Office plans to submit for a Secretary of State grant to raise judge pay by $3 for the November 2024 Presidential Election. The purpose of this drop-in is full transparency and to get the BOCC’s support, reassuring them that this should not impact our bottom line and will be very helpful for election judge recruitment.
end
Background and Discussion: This will be an estimated $224k grant (additional costs) for the election judge pay. These are unbudgeted expenses, but we have every expectation that the SOS will FULLY reimburse these funds at the end of year, per their assurance. We also added a 10% contingency on the hours, expecting a thorough election.
Fiscal Impact: Assuming full reimbursement, as promised, no fiscal impact is expected.
Alternatives: The only alternative is to not do the grant and pay the staff less. This will prevent any recruiting benefits which we are desperately seeking to obtain.
Alignment with Strategic Plan:
☒Be fiscally sustainable
☒Provide essential and mandated service
☐Be community focused
Staff Recommendation: Support.
Concurrence: We have support from the Secretary of State Office, the Colorado County Clerk Association, our Arapahoe Finance Department partner and our Arapahoe Legal business partner.
