Purpose and Request:

The Sheriff's Office requests permission to apply for the 2026/27 Colorado Judicial Department Court Security Cash Fund (Court Security) grant. If awarded, the grant will fund court security equipment including 8 items costing over $5,000 each, requiring fixed asset numbers.

Alignment with Strategic Plan: Safe and Healthy Communities - Expand mental and behavioral health service partnerships, crisis response, and co-responder programs.
Background and Discussion: In the 2007 legislative session the Colorado General Assembly passed Senate Bill 07-118, codified at Section 13-1-201 et seq., C.R.S. which provides supplemental funding for courthouse security. That bill created the Court Security Cash Fund Grant and mandated that money from the Fund be made available to counties through grants for court security staffing, equipment, and training. Such grants are issued through the State Court Administrator's Office upon recommendation by the Court Security Cash Fund Commission. Funding under the program is available to Colorado Counties only.
The Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office (ACSO) is seeking authorization from the Board of County Commissioners to allow the Sheriff's Office to apply for and accept the subsequent award for the 2026/27 Court Security Cash Fund Grant. ACSO will use funds from this grant to purchase and relocate security cameras, ballistic shields, and computer radio programming to add an additional dispatch channel for court operations.
