Alignment with Strategic Plan: Safe and Healthy Communities - Advance public safety by strengthening partnerships across law enforcement, emergency response, and community stakeholders.
Background and Discussion: The National Weather Service (NWS) is updating the Weather Radio alerting transmitter that provides critical weather safety alerts to all of Arapahoe County and much of the adjacent eastern plains. The NWS is performing all labor and assuming all costs. The current transmitter is beyond its serviceable life and is not expected to continue providing alerts in a reliable manner.
Alternatives: NWS weather radio is a critical component of the alert and warning system and there are no viable alternatives.
Fiscal Impact: None.
Alignment with Strategic Implementation Strategies: The attached framework helps Arapahoe County institutionalize values-based, transparent decision-making, documenting how we make decisions and carry out actions to achieve the county’s strategic plan.
Concurrence: US Department of Commerce, National Weather Service.
