Background:

body

The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office is applying for 2020 Patrick Leahy Bulletproof Vest (BVP) grant to provide additional funding for ballistic carriers for deputies.

Discussion:

2020 Patrick Leahy Bulletproof Vest (BVP) grant offers federal funds for ballistic vest carriers. The Sheriff’s Office will be using these federal funds to purchase ballistic vest carriers for deputies. The total amount of the award is $21,555. The BVP grant program requires that each applicant be responsible for providing at least 50 percent of the cost of each qualifying vest purchased. The Sheriff’s Office will use existing budget to match the funds.

Alternatives:

The alternative is to not accept the grant and therefore either not purchase ballistic vest carriers or the Sheriff’s Office will be responsible for 100 percent of the cost.

Fiscal Impact:

The grant requires matching funds of 50 percent in which the Sheriff’s Office will use existing budget to match the funds.
