Purpose and Request:
recommended action
For the Board of County Commissioners to continue their discussion on the request by the Sheriff's Office to reappropriate funding received but unspent during 2020 from the Cherry Creek School District for law enforcement purposes.

Background and Discussion: During study sessions on March 8th and a follow-up study session on March 30th, the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) considered the Sheriff's Office request for the reappropriation of funds received in 2020 from Cherry Creek Schools in the amount of $310,000. The Board received presentations on the County's annual reappropriation process and such requests received from all departments/elected offices from the Finance Department and from the Sheriff's Office on the nature of school resource officer funding and the use of this specific amount of funding from Cherry Creek Schools. The Board of County Commissioners did not finalize a decision on whether to reappropriate these funds during those sessions and requested additional time for discussion and deliberation.

Fiscal Impact: The reappropriation of this funding from Cherry Creek School District from 2020 would increase the budget of the Sheriff's Office and the General Fund by $310,000.

Alternatives: A formal decision on appropriating this funding is not needed until the 1st Quarter Budget Review coming up in May. At that point, the Board could choose to reappropriate this funding and add it to the Sheriff's Office budget for use or could choose to not reappropriat...
