Appointment of Senior Citizen Property Tax Referee



Purpose and Request:

recommended action

The purpose of this request is to obtain authorization for the chairman to sign a resolution approving the appointment of an independent referee to conduct hearings regarding Senior Citizen Property Tax Exemptions.


Background and Discussion: Appointment of an independent referee is requested pursuant to C.R.S. §39-3-206. Senior Citizens are allowed to appeal denials of their property tax relief requests and Arapahoe County is required by law to appoint referee(s) to hear these appeal(s).  The proposed referee for tax year 2021 is:  Jeff Hamilton


Alternatives: None.  

Fiscal Impact: Reduction in the amount of property taxes collected for eligible properties.

Concurrence: The negotiator for the County Board of Equalization, the County Assessor and the County Attorney all support this recommendation.
