Background and Discussion: The Sheriff's Office provides in-service and academy training throughout the year. Due to the vast amount of equipment transported to various locations, the Training Unit needs an additional trailer. The existing trailer used for active threat training is at its maximum load capacity and no other options to haul equipment exist.

Purchasing an additional cargo trailer for the training unit will ensure a performance-based culture of service to the community is met, ensuring appropriate resources / equipment is provided to employees while training.
The Sheriff's Office provides hands on, skills based training, to commissioned deputies year round. This training requires significant amount of equipment be hauled to outside venues. An existing trailer used for active threat training is at its maximum load capacity. The Training Unit has reached out to other Bureaus within the Sheriff's Office and cannot find an available trailer to borrow. In order for the Training Unit to provide the most realistic, safe, and practical training an additional trailer is needed to haul equipment. The cost to purchase a new 16 foot, dual axle trailer is approximately $11,000.
Fiscal Impact: The estimated cost to purchase a new 16 foot trailer is approximately $11,000. This will be paid out of existing budget and Sheriff's Office is not asking for any financial assistance.
