The Sheriff's Office requests the Board of County Commissioners (BoCC) to authorize the Chair of the Board of County Commissioners to sign an Agreement for the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office to appoint a Deputy Sheriff to the DEA Financial Investigations Group (FIT) Taskforce.

Background and Discussion: The Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office, like all law enforcement agencies continues to battle the introduction of illegal controlled substances into our society. The financial proceeds of trafficking illegal controlled substances are stimulus for violent criminal activity and are a source of income for drug trafficking organizations. The DEA FIT Taskforce focuses its attention on identifying and disrupting these organizations by initiating investigations and enforcement related to the ill-gotten gains of drug trafficking organizations and money laundering activities. The Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office is requesting the BoCC to approve the Agreement to allow the appointment of a Deputy Sheriff onto the DEA FIT Taskforce to facilitate the investigation of drug trafficking, money laundering and use of financial gains resulting from drug trafficking operations. The Arapahoe County Narcotics Team is being merged with the Sheriff's Office Special Investigations Unit to more efficiently address criminal activity relating to illegal controlled substances, vice activities, gang activity, pattern criminal activity and intelligence functions. The merger of the two teams will be a force multiplier since these types of criminal acts and investigations relate to one another for the most part.
