Purpose and Request:

recommended action

The purpose of this update is for Natriece Bryant to present the most updated information as it relates to the Governor’s proposed budget initiative of renovating the Ridgeview Campus for use in the area of homeless services and sheltering.

end

Background and Discussion: Governor Polis included $45 million one-time dollars in his proposed 2022 budget to assist in funding the renovation and establishment of homeless sheltering and services on the site of the former Ridgeview Academy.  This campus would provide shelter and services specific to the homeless population in the region and is located in Arapahoe County.  The Governor and his team have expressed interest in a partnership with Arapahoe County, the City of Aurora, and the City and County of Denver on this initiative.

Staff has requested further information from the State of Colorado and the Governor’s office related the Governor’s proposed initiative of renovating the Ridgeview Campus.  With this being a funding priority for the Governor, and the site being in Arapahoe County, we would like additional information from the State related to what partnership looks like.  This will help inform the board as to the direction they would like to take with the project in determining future support, partnership, and possible funding.

Fiscal Impact: There is currently no fiscal impact to Arapahoe County Government’s budget because the potential solutions, tools and enhanced partnerships have not been fully developed at this time.

Alternatives: Without additional information, the BoCC and staff may not be able to make the most informed decision related to partnership moving forward on this project.

Alignment with Strategic Plan:

                     Be fiscally sustainable

                     Provide essential and mandated service

                     Be community focused
