Background and Discussion: At an April 5, 2022, study session (materials attached), the Board of County Commissioners approved a $475,000 allocation of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds for the Coroner’s Office to purchase new postmortem imaging equipment. The new equipment will allow the Coroner’s Office to more efficiently process the backlog created by the COVID-19 pandemic, reduce required investigation time, and reduce staff radiation and disease exposure while imaging bodies.
Since the Board’s approval in April, the Coroner’s Office has conducted a procurement process and identified a vendor for the equipment. However, because of the type and cost of the expenditure, the Coroner does not have the appropriate signature authority to sign the agreement and expend ARPA funds. The purpose of this resolution is to provide the Coroner the authority to sign the agreement and expend $475,000 of ARPA funds for the new equipment.
Fiscal Impact: $475,000 of allocated ARPA funds.
Alternatives: The Board could not grant this authority and sign the agreement on behalf of the Coroner’s Office.
