The Board of County Commissioners is requested to adopt a resolution appointing a county commissioner redistricting commission, an advisory committee and internal staff; and establishing deadlines to ensure that the redrawing of county commissioner districts is accomplished no later than September 30 of the redistricting year.

Background and Discussion: Pursuant to Colorado Revised Statutes § 30-10-306, boundaries for county commissioner districts must be established, revised, or altered after each federal census of the United States and the Board of County Commissioners may do the following, as noted in the attached resolution:
• Appoint a Redistricting Commission made up of the members of a county’s board of county commissioners;
• Delegate any function of the redistricting commission, except the adoption of a redistricting plan, to an advisory committee;
• Appoint staff to assist the redistricting commission and advisory committee; and
• Establish deadlines to ensure that the redrawing of county commissioner districts is accomplished by no later than September 30 of the redistricting year.
Alternatives: The Board of County Commissioners could choose to not approve this resolution, which would result in a delay to the redistricting process.
