Background and Discussion: The Board of County Commissioners provides financial assistance to nonprofit organizations serving Arapahoe County residents across nine service areas: transportation, substance abuse, mental/behavioral health, shelter, food assistance, domestic violence support, affordable housing, employment skills/services and case management. The County funds organizations through a competitive grant program and annual awards to seven organizations who do not need to apply for funds (“safety net organizations”).
An application for the competitive program opened on June 28, 2022, and closed August 5, 2022. A review team consisting of staff from Community Resources, Human Services and the Commissioners’ Office scored each application against criteria approved by the Board. Staff presented funding options and a recommendation at a November 1, 2022, study session, and the Board approved the staff recommendation without any amendments.
For the 2023 program year, the Aid to Agencies agreements include 12 agencies who will be awarded funding through the competitive grant program as outlined below and ten (10) agencies/programs that will be funded annually to supplement the County’s existing safety net programs. The safety net organization funding will be the same as the 2022 program year.
